The Young Men's Association (YMA) Malanada Club was formed in 1983 by the football lovers and compassionate people of Malanada and Edakkad. With their kind co-operation, this great club was established. The first football tournament was held in 1986, with prominent sports clubs from all over Kerala. Since then the tournament was conducted every year during Onam season. Well known teams from Thiruvanthapuram, Kollam, Pathinamthita, Allapuzha districts have participated in these tournaments. YMA Malanada has played a great role in forming young football players, and encouraging them to participate in various other sports and cultural programs. Poruvazhy Peruviruthi Malanada temple has given the privilege to utilize the temple ground for all the activities of YMA Malanada. We are thankful to the Malanada Devaswom for allowing us to utilize their property as our home ground.
Sri. Renjith Raveendran, Cherumpanampinam Vilayil, Edakkad, the former captain and great forward player for the YMA football club, is no longer with us. He passed away at a young age. He was a great friend; he was the kind of friend that stands by you when you need somebody to be there. With his great talent and leadership, we marched towards victory in many football and cricket tournaments. Being a best football player, and a best forwarder, he earned most goals in tournaments and many awards like Best Player, Best forward etc. His absence is a big loss to the YMA football club. In his memory, the winner of the YMA football tournament is given the "Renjith Memorial Trophy".
